1. When will we have Street Fair back? (When things open up again.)
– DISCUSSION of that Palm Springs and our City Council guide the City “by the book”, so that when we open up we open up FOR GOOD. Following the rules.
– REPORT that Visitor’s Center only open Thursday thru Sunday and the Chamber is fielding most of the calls.
– REPORT on the new Chamber’s Restaurant Coupon program to help support all restaurants. (don’t have to be a Chamber member). Go to the P.S. Chamber website, print out or download the coupon. Only need to do this ONCE. Over coupons 11,000 have been downloaded. Take it to any participating restaurant for $10. off any check of at least $30. Then the restaurant will turn in the #’s of all the coupons and Nona will re-imburse the restaurant for all those tickets. SO, it doesn’t cost the restaurant anything. You can use the same coupon over and over for take-out or outside dining.
– REPORT that David Ready will be out City Manager until April.
– REPORT that the Tuesday Lead’s Lunches are now Virtual and being done via Zoom.
– DISCUSSION of new memberships and the dispensation of information that is needed from the Chamber.

EISENHOWER HEALTH w/ Dr. Geraldine Klein re: EH’s 1st Female Urologist. Specialist in robotic urology & urinary tract & pelvic reconstruction, 3900 Bob Hope Dr., Rancho Mirage, CA. 92270.
– REPORT on how she is the first female urologist @ Eisenhower Health. She is a surgeon w/ all the different options therein. She likes “seeing” patients over the course of many years.
– DEFINITION of urology. She deals w/ issues in the kidneys, (we see lots of kidney stones in this climate) bladder, urethra, prostate, etc.
– REPORT that she treats both men and women. Mostly men.
– DISCUSSION of how she takes care of patients from diagnosis, treatment, surgery, recovery, etc.
– CONVERSATION about robotic surgery. Easier this way when organs are deep in the body. She puts in “ports” while the patient is asleep, then works from a robot console w/ headgear. Robot functions as a microscope. Less blood loss. Better recovery time. Some surgeries require an open surgical approach.
– REPORT on the overlap between a woman’s need for a gynecologist and Dr. Klein’s services and skills as a urologist.
– REPORT that folks have delayed care and “quality of life issues” during the Pandemic.

PALM SPRINGS FIRE DEPARTMENT w/ Capt., Nathan Gunkel re: Public Information Officer.
– REPORT that last year was the worst fire season in history in California. Different theories of what causes fires….i.e. global warming, accidents, etc.
– REPORT that the desert “burns”. Typically in Palm Springs can be ANY TIME.
– DISCUSSION of how to trim around your home….1 and a half times the height of your home.
– DISCUSSION of how a palm tree catches fire. Power lines cause most of these fires. If this is an issue call S.C.E.
– DEFINITION of the one “water tender” we have in Palm Springs. Every firetruck (5 in Palm Springs) has water on it. Every firetruck has a paramedic on it. We have one paramedic vehicle.
– REPORT on the rescue/medical issues the Fire Department takes care of here in Palm Springs. Fire Department also requests helicopter assistance.

– DISCUSSION that Insurance Companies look to see if your home is within 5 miles of a fire station in order for you to get fire insurance. Need to be 1,000 feet from a fire hydrant as well.
– Dennis’s company has the California Fair Plan that covers you for fire if you don’t meet the 5 mile and 1,000 feel requirements.
– REPORT that Dennis insures all over California. Also in California, Utah, Arizona, Texas etc.
– REPORT that insurance rates WILL be going up.
– REPORT that there is great product thru Mercury for new home owners as new homes are now required to have sprinklers in new homes.
– REPORT that the insurance issues in Texas are not considered “acts of God”.
– COVERED CA. has extended the time to change your coverage until May 15.
– REPORT on what to do “insurance-wise” in this new year. Most rates are going up, but if you have your home insurance w/ your mortgage payment, you might not notice the increase in your insurance. Call Dennis and let him SHOP it for you. He has 30 different carriers to shop for ALL TYPES OF INSURANCE needs. 90% of the time he can get you more coverage for the same amt. of $ OR same coverage for less $, etc.

– DISCUSSION of why J.T.’s is a “DINER”. There are bar stools, a counter, that “diner feel”. The menu has a diner design as well. The décor too, including Pepsi signage, the ole’ tin signage that is for sale. Old fashion sodas, cotton candy etc.
– REPORT on the menu; steak and eggs, corn beef hash, chix fried steak, meat loaf. Best pancakes in the Valley. Uses a product in the pancake mix Todd found in L.A.!!!! THEY HAVE BUCKWHEAT PANCAKES TOO!!!! WITH REAL MAPLE SYRUP!!!

– REPORT on “Great Plates” which R.M. has just extended and Todd is making some of the deliveries of breakfast, lunch and dinner. Great Plates is saving both the customers that need to stay home due to immune deficiency issues and the restaurants that are serving them. FEMA picks up the costs.

– REPORT that we are starting our 50th week of the Pandemic.
– REPORT on the County’s numbers that are now closer to that @ 25 persons per 100,000 cases mark and are getting better. We will be getting more vaccine from the County.
– REPORT that Blue Shield is getting involved in the vaccination distribution process and how helpful the experience Blue Shield has in this area will be. BS will be looking at areas in the CV hardest hit.
– REPORT on the two vaccination sites D.O.H.C. has. Palm Springs and Indio.
– DISCUSSION of the excitement people are exhibiting to get the vaccine. D.O.H.C. is vaccinating over 2,000 folks a week.
– REPORT that after your 2 shots you are pretty protected after about 2 weeks. CONTINUE the same protocols as before. Rare, but one still might get COVID-19, although the risk of death and severe illness aren’t as serious.
– QUESTIONS FROM “JOEY PALS”
1. Tongue symptoms. (might be swelling, irritation to medication, etc).
2. Layering the blue mask? (Recommended by the CDC. The blue surgical masks are 3 layers. Only 60% effective, but add a fitted cloth mask OVER the blue one).
3. Is the Johnson and Johnson vaccine only available for emergencies? (Pfiser and Moderna are not fully approved by the FDA and area permitted for use in emergency situations. J. ‘n J. is not @ this level yet.)

1. 2 blue masks are not any better than one.
2. N95 counterfeit masks are out there. N95 should be reserved for health care workers. KN95’s are for the general public.
3. Make sure masks are 3 layers, w/ some sort of filter between them or surgical masks w/ a cloth one in between.
4. NOT RECOMMENDED are gator ones or a mask w/ a filter/valve.
– REPORT on the infusion of Bamlanivimab when appropriate. Takes 3 to 4 hours. Strong protocol for Bam’s use. Regeneron also. Both drugs are under emergency use authorization. THESE VACCINES ARE FREE to D.O.H.C. to give and to patients to receive.
– DEFINITION of monoclonal antibodies that are created from folks who have had the virus and are for treatment to create these antibodies in patients who don’t need to be hospitalized.
– REPORT on how the testing system works @ D.O.H.C. Stay the course w/ protocols.
– REPORT that D.O.H.C. is vaccinating only their members, but others can go to the county website for additional sites for shots.

– DISCUSSION of Heart Month as it pertains to Women. There has been a rise in cardiac issues for Women as they entered the workforce.
– REPORT that heart health symptoms are DIFFERENT for women than men. i.e. back pain in women can be a symptom of a heart issue. Women tend to ignore any symptoms due to their higher pain threshold before dealing w/ heart issues, unlike men.
– DISCUSSION of the emotional issues of the heart.
1. If you are feeling joyous, share that w/ other. “Shared joy doubles the joy”.
2. If you are feeling pain, share the sad things as well. The sound of a voice is instinctively better for healing than a text or email, even in the womb. “Keep your face to the light, because then you won’t see the dark” from Helen Keller.
