3. Sun., Dec., 8 – Will be the 15th annual Men of the Desert. 11 AM – 2 PM @ the Palm Springs Air Museum. “Back to the Future” is the theme. Auction, cocktails, food by Lulu, fashion show from Susan Stein. Tix on sale soon. $200.
– REPORT on how they have rescued over 16,000 animals from the County Shelters. There is a full-time staff member from Animal Samaritans who helps save the pets and get them the services they need.

NEURO VITALITY CENTER w/ Allan H. Jensen C.E.O., re: 450 Sunrise Way in the Teen Center., Palm Springs.
– REMINDER that the NVC building, acreage, etc. has been purchased by Eisenhower Health. Transitioning into a new program PACE. Location on Alejo will be closed for about one year while EVERYTHING IS REMODELED.
– PACE is built on the Medicare Program. Getting into it is based on financials but is open to everyone.
– REPORT that All programs have transferred over to the Boys and Girls Club of Palm Springs @ Sunrise and Ramon. Phone numbers remain the same. Eisenhower is bringing in a new program called PACE that will have “Clinical Suites” on site.
– ANNOUNCEMENT that they have partnered w/ the Mizell Senior Center. Every Monday there will be a FREE Stroke Recovery Support Group for caregivers, folks at risk of stroke and interested persons. Will be held every other week through the summer.
– REPORT that they are STILL accepting new clients.
– REPORT that the NVC is located in the Boy’s and Girl’s Club TEEN CENTER. 250 Sunrise.
– REMINDER: they are now open from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM for clients Monday thru Friday.
– REPORT that their programs are for anyone 18 and older, but the majority of their clients are 55 plus.

DEMENTIA HELP CENTER w/ Kae Hammond, re: 75-270 Hwy., 111, Ste., 204, Indian Wells 92210.
– MISSION STATEMENT that Dementia Help Center is the rescue plan for family caregivers. Offer individual and family coaching, personalized planning, care management and placement when the time comes. Fear cripples, but knowledge empowers. Strive to educate, inform and manage the disease and then to thrive.
– REPORT on her clients overall. Clients KNOW when they are experiencing changes long before their friends and family realize the subtle changes. Then there is a MOMENT when the family and friends finally realize. Then it makes it easier to navigate.
– REPORT that there are over 100 forms of Dementia. Really only 12 prevalent ones. Vascular Dementia is the 2nd most common. Alzheimer’s is the 1st most common.
– #1 – DISCUSSION of how the brain and memory is like a “file cabinet”. The file is there, maybe you can’t find it.
– #2 – DISCUSSION of how to be a “safe person” for a person w/ Dementia. Dementia sufferers seem to have a “sense” of who is “safe” and who is not. More basic. One of the last things we lose is our sense of hearing and our awareness of emotions.
– #3 – DISCUSSION that you should HAVE A PLAN. Think in the present about a plan no matter what happens tomorrow. i.e. viable power of attorney for your health care, your finances, your final wishes, etc.
– REPORT on their DHC’s bi-monthly “THRIVE” support group for ALL LEVELS IS BACK. Open to clients, family, caregivers. They also have a ZOOM meeting. Call for the link. FREE CONSULTATIONS. Indian Wells group meets 1st and 3rd Wed., of each month. La Quinta group meets 2nd and 4th Wed., in Old Town. of each month.

– ANNOUNCEMENT that on Oct., 27 @ 3 PM, Allan Jensen, on earlier in this show, will be doing his show “If It’s Me, It’s Broadway” @ the Sunday Cabaret Series @ the Joslyn Center’s Arthur Newman Theater. Tickets available @ the door.
– REPORT that the Joslyn Center has at least 80 programs, activities and FREE COUNSELING for folks.
– REPORT on the FREE “Go For Life” program @ Joslyn. Nationally recognized program for Seniors. Aerobic exercise. Mon., Wed., Thurs., and Fri., Shows every weekend thru February.
Then follow up w/ Yoga classes etc. Average of 200 folks a day come there. Large facility.
– REPORT on the Singles Dinner Group; Deaf and Hard-of-hearing Club; among others.
– REPORT that the Joslyn Center is for 50 plus folks. 2,200 members. $30/year for membership.
– REPORT that the Center is open Monday thru Friday 8 AM 5 PM. They are a COOLING CENTER. Stop in, get water and a snack, cool down and engage in activities if you like.
– REPORT that they are an Adult Senior Center and that they have over 80 classes and clubs every week. Check the calendar on their website.
– ANNOUNCEMENT that there is a Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Club. They play cards etc., GREAT.
– REPORT that the Joslyn Center serves between 150 and 200 people a day for people age 50 and up.
– REPORT that membership is $30./year. Sign up on-line and sign up for the FREE newsletter that comes out every week, even during the summer.
