– QUESTIONS FROM “JOEY PALS”
1. Can you explain the White House Dog “Commander” who has bitten people at least 12 times? (There are rules that when a dog bites the 1st time the owners are issued a warning, after a 2nd bit, the animal may be euthanized. There are dogs that suffer from PTSD, just as humans do and they require special handling and a special owner. The animal may have suffered abuse too. A lot of this comes down to training too.)
2. What is “re-homing” a dog? (Means the owners decide they don’t want the pet anymore. This is epidemic in our country now for lots of reasons.)
– REPORT that Animal Samaritans tries to do all they can for these folks and their unwanted animals. This is heartbreaking.
– REPORT that it may be possible to re-train a dog. Puppies are easiest, but older dogs can be re-trained too. Wendy does massage therapy for animals.

– ANNOUNCEMENT; Open Mic is back!!!! Every Wednesday. Tonight doors open @ 6 PM, performing starts @ 6:30 to 9 PM. Joel Baker on “Myrtle”. Now the volunteer staff is doing a snack bar and drinks. Fee is $10. Bring you sheet music AND IF YOU DON’T HAVE ANY, don’t worry, Joel can play anything.
– ANNOUNCEMENT of the Saturday Showcase Shows.
Will begin in Oct., One artist does 1 hour. No real audition, just go in and talk to Allan. Allan will even “mentor” beginners. This has been very successful…i.e. The Palms in the High Desert.
– REPORT that there will be a Saturday Showcase every Sat., thru the end of April, 2024.
– REPORT the state has just ruled that the CBAS Program (thru the Dept. of Aging and their standard of care) and the Desert Memory Center can now be combined for clients.
– REPORT on the Memory Care Facility.

– MISSION STATEMENT that Dementia Help Center is the rescue plan for family caregivers. Offer individual and family coaching, personalized planning, care management and placement when the time comes. Fear cripples, but knowledge empowers.
– QUESTIONS FROM “JOEY PALS”
1. Are anti-psychotic medications are dangerous for folks w/ Dementia? (Df., of “off label”. Was created for one issue, but works well for another condition. Drugs in this category are very specific for individual patients. Not one size fits all drugs. These drugs MAY be ok for someone w/ Alzheimers.)
2. If you sit 10 hours a day will that increase my chances of getting Dementia? (Sitting too much decreases the blood flow to the brain and everywhere else. When combined w/ other “health deficits” such as bad diet etc., it’s bad for every part of your body)
– REPORT that you should go from “care giver” to “care manager”. 70% of family members caring for a family member will develop a life-threatening illness.
– REPORT on their bi-monthly “THRIVE” support group for ALL LEVELS IS BACK. Open to clients, family, care-givers. They also have a ZOOM meeting. Call for the link. FREE CONSULTATIONS.
