– MISSION STATEMENT; Dementia Help Center is the rescue plan for family caregivers. Offer individual and family coaching, personalized planning, care management and placement when the time comes. Fear cripples, but knowledge empowers. Strive to educate, inform and manage the disease and then to thrive.
– DISCUSSION of how IMPORTANT it is to get a proper diagnosis. More than 10 million people are diagnosed in the world each YEAR!!! Each form “presents” differently. This diagnosis guides the doctor as to how to treat and also guides the family as to what to expect.
– REPORT on the first signs of Dementia; memory loss. Alzheimers Causes “short term” memory loss; Vascular dementia results in executive disfunction and is caused by TIAs (planning and carrying out tasks); frontal temporal dementia causes language and behavioral issues.
– PARKINSONS is one of the 100 types of dementia. May not have cognitive impairment until 10 years into it.
– REPORT that there are over 100 forms of Dementia. Really only 12 prevalent ones. Vascular Dementia is the 2nd most common. Alzheimer’s is the 1st most common.
– 10 TIPS FOR ALZHEIMER’S & DEMENTIA FAMILY CAREGIVERS.
1. Recognize & accept that things are now different.
2. Control your tone of voice & manage your patience levels.
3. Be careful about “crowds”.
4. Provide family members & friends an update, in advance.

7. Accompany your loved one into the public restroom.
8. Stick to their routine as much as possible.
9. Take advantage of available perks when traveling by air.
10. Introduce a new “tradition”.

– REPORT The Tram is the #1 Tourist attraction in the C.V. and the #8 IN THE WORLD place for cliff-side dining by Architectural Digest and the temperature @ the Top of the Tram is 40 degrees cooler than on the Desert Floor. In the 60’s and 70’s. You can buy a jacket at the gift shop if you need. Great place to send your visitors.
– DISCUSSION w/ how to deal w/ all the crowds. Make a reservation.
– REPORT that the views are amazing. You can see for 50 miles.
– DISCUSSION of the food @ Peaks; rib eye, lamb, salmon, a real tiramisu, a warm apple tart, glutton-free chocolate cake w/ a caramel center.
– DISCUSSION of the food @ Pines Café; more cafeteria style; grab ‘n go, sandwiches, salads, ribs, herb chicken, pizza, nachos. Ride ‘n Dine (tram ticket and dinner @ the Pines Café) starts @ 4:30 PM; ribs, burgundy beef, chicken, vegetarian lasagna.
– DISCUSSION of the food @ Lookout Lounge. Best view of the forest and the valley. Peaks menu is served here as well.

3. Provides a sense of excitement; Stay positive, stay flexible, be careful about the first hospital visit.
4. Listen and differ to the new parents when it comes to a new baby. Have these conversations before the baby is born.
