– REPORT that our American Legion here in Palm Springs. We are Area 5, Dist. 21, Post 519 and Amado is the National Legislative Representative on the Media Communications and Legislative Council.
– REPORT on June 6 anniversary of the Normandy Invasion. We have some living Veterans of WWII. Local George Clampa’s book “Silent Dog Tags.”
– REPORT on what PTS is now and how the American Legion is educating folks about the “Be The One” program to be the one person a depressed or suicidal person calls. Amado is a suicide survivor. Honoring Miss Joey English w/ the “Be The One” designation.
– REPORT on the events he has orchestrated and the participation of “Angel Force Awareness”. June 14, the same presentation @ the Richard Nixon Library to honor the Viet Nam vets.
– REPORT that they will be retiring flags today @ Post 519 today.
– DISCUSSION w/ McArvie Crawford, Jr. who is now the American Legion Youth Baseball Commissioner. His service in the Air Force and Police Department.
We have 37 teams in CA. Need for volunteers for coaches, umpires, sponsors. Score-keepers etc. Especially for the Sand Lot Teams (5 to 14 years).

– REPORT that Medicare enrollment period ended Dec., 7 but Feb., and Mar. is when we start planning for Oct., 15 annual election period.
– DISCUSSION on the fact that there may be significant changes and he KEEPS up w/ all the changes.
– REPORT that you have your Medicare Card for A and B, then there is D for drugs so think of C as a combination of A,B & D.
– REPORT that his agency focuses on Medicare. Not many agents do this specialty. He will have on-line and in-person classes to attend to keep up w/ the changes.
– REPORT that Medicare is NOT just for older persons.
– REPORT on what we should be doing about insurances @ this time OF THE YEAR. The rules about what you can and cannot do are hard to understand.
– REPORT that he can’t speak to the changes until Oct. If you didn’t make changes YOU CANNOT for the rest of the year. Now we are in a “lock in” period thru the end of year.
– REPORT that CA. wants you to re-file each year for your Medical benefits as of April 1. As of July last year lots of rules changed. YOU NEED BRIAN.
– REPORT that this is so complicated one should work w/ Brian to get through it. WATCH out for “tricks”…..speak w/ Brian to be certain.
– REPORT that Brian will serve his clients in their home, in his office, on the phone. He has all the special classification to do all of this.

PALM SPRINGS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT w/ Daniel Meier. Re: Deputy Director of Aviation, Marketing & Air Service @ Palm Springs International Airport.
– REPORT on the cruise he and his Sister took their Mother on. The fact that the sea-sickness/motion patch behind the ear can cause horrible disorientation.
– REPORT that the new website will be up in about 30 days. Go live date is July 6. i.e. TSA checkpoint wait times, lost and found etc.
– REPORT on the FUSE CONNECT coming on board to be the new in-terminal concession vendor. Lots of digital application.
– CONTINUING REPORT that the Palm Springs International Airport has received $5.7 million dollars from the Department of Transportation to improve, renovate and expand the baggage handling facility. Needs the expansion as the airport is soooo busy.
– REPORT on the Master Plan. Will be a 30-month process. The airport wants public input for suggestions. Visible on the website; www.palmspringsairportmasterplan.com Will guide the airport for the next twenty years.
– REPORT on possible electric planes and that there may be a vertiport to land electric aircraft probably used for short-range flights at first!!!!!
– DISCUSSION that Vertiports are in the works now. United has electric aircraft in development now.
– REPORT on how the fueling happens for the Airport.
– DISCUSSION of what type of fuel different planes use.
– REPORT that the new concourse will open w/ all the new restaurants and shops will open this Fall.
– REPORT that there is a new website that will tell you what you can and cannot take. www.tsa.gov and go to the section “what can I bring”.
– REPORT on the new check-in procedure; i.e. TSA. (www.tsa.gov) US Global Entry; Clear (www.clearme.com). Now you don’t have to go to a TSA office, starting soon will just have to go to PSP.

– QUESTIONS FROM “JOEY PALS” in the “Medicine Cabinet”.
1. From last week; If a person lives a long time there were no signs of Alz., even though there was plaque in the brain after they died. (Yes, large study STILL GOING ON…the folks seem to be neuro-protected. GREAT NEWS. Study out of U. Of Pittsburg. Now a blood test shows the protein in the blood tied to the bad proteins and the bad cells as well to predict Alzheimers.)
2. Do most heart attacks happen on Mondays? (Yes. Study out of Ireland. Mondays are #1 and Saturdays are #2. Most happen between 4 AM and 10 AM.)
3. Motion patch caused disorientation and possible dementia on a cruise ship? (Yes, called “devil’s breath” the Scopolamine patch. Been around a long time. Ingredients are BAD FOR SENIORS. 
The patch unmasks the things in the brain that cause dementia – lets it all loose!!)

Children have a 12% chance of lifetime obesity. When pregnant, 1. Drink more water; 2. Don’t eat packaged foods; 3. Don’t vacuum.)
5. Is Covid ticking up? (Yes…spike in China. America is seeing a decrease in cases).
6. The fires in the East from Canada are causing such HORRIBLE physical aliments? (YES. 13 states are being affected by the Canadian wildfires. The worst air quality since records began. 10 times as bad AS EVER RECORDED. Try to be in airconditioned spaces and wear N-95 masks.).

SHAY’S WARRIORS w/ Shay Moraga re: Life After Cancer.
– REPORT on the “I Am Hope” retreat. How this retreat brought 40 cancer survivors to an “all inclusive resort” for 4 days to connect and share. The La Quinta Resort, Eisenhower Health and Wallys are among the supporters. They had 115 nominations and accepted 40 for this retreat.
– REPORT that both men and women are their clients and all types of cancer are addressed as well.
– REPORT that these retreats will occur every June during National Cancer Survivors Month.
– REPORT that she is looking for volunteers.
– REPORT on “talk, listen, share” feature; have guests that come one; how to continue to provide support; “fit warriors move to heal” meeting twice a month to exercise in some way.

LIFESTREAM BLOOD BANK w/ Dan Ballisda re: Urgent need for donations right now.
– REPORT that the 9 Cities Blood Drive Challenge will be from July 1 – Aug., 31. A friendly challenge between all 9 cities to attend a mobile blood drive and there is a winning city. Last year Palm Springs won.
– REPORT that the summer months are the most difficult to collect blood since so many residents leave.
– REPORT that to donate blood call: 1 800 TRY-GIVING and schedule appointments, or to host a blood drive, or to find locations to donate. Call early, schedule books up quickly.
– DISCUSSION that LifeStream Blood Bank provides all the blood to 3 hospitals in the Coachella Valley and 80 Southern California hospitals.
– REPORT that you can donate blood every 56 days.
– DISCUSSION that if they could get folks to donate 3 times a year on a regular basis they would have all the blood needed.
– REPORT that there are regular incentives when you donate and they try to sign you up for your next donation @ the same time you give blood. AND you get a little mini-physical @ the same time.
– REPORT that every unit of blood is tested every time for 13 different diseases.
