– The Patriotic Center of the Coachella Valley.
– REPORT on the Mon., May 29; Memorial Day Flower Drop. Red carnations for the more recent wars; white carnations are for past wars. 50th anniversary of the end of the Viet Nam War. The Gold Star families were honored. There were food vendors, jazz musicians and PB4Y-2 the world’s ONLY flying one.
– REPORT that for $25. You can “sponsor” a POW bracelet. In the Fall there will be an evening event to honor the POW’s.
– REPORT that the Air Museum s open from 10 AM to 5 PM every single day. 73 airplanes.
– REPORT that the Disney Plane “The Mouse” along w/ the documentary about it are on now.
– REPORT that all hangers are air conditioned in 91,000 sq. feet of exhibit space.
– REPORT that there is the F-117 Nighthawk Stealth Fighter display up in the Jim Houston Pavilion.

PALM SPRINGS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT w/ Daniel Meier. Re: Deputy Director of Aviation, Marketing & Air Service @ Palm Springs International Airport.
– REPORT on the cruise he and his Sister took their Mother on. The fact that the sea-sickness/motion patch behind the ear can cause horrible disorientation.
– REPORT that the new website will be up in about 30 days. Go live date is July 6. i.e. TSA checkpoint wait times, lost and found etc.
– REPORT on the FUSE CONNECT coming on board to be the new in-terminal concession vendor. Lots of digital application.
– CONTINUING REPORT that the Palm Springs International Airport has received $5.7 million dollars from the Department of Transportation to improve, renovate and expand the baggage handling facility. Needs the expansion as the airport is soooo busy.
– REPORT on the Master Plan. Will be a 30-month process. The airport wants public input for suggestions. Visible on the website; www.palmspringsairportmasterplan.com Will guide the airport for the next twenty years.
– REPORT on possible electric planes and that there may be a vertiport to land electric aircraft probably used for short-range flights at first!!!!!
– DISCUSSION that Vertiports are in the works now. United has electric aircraft in development now.
– REPORT on how the fueling happens for the Airport.

– REPORT that the new concourse will open w/ all the new restaurants and shops will open this Fall.

– REPORT that they are only doing morning tours now.
1. San Andreas Fault Tour – the regular main tour in the morning.
2. Indian Canyons – usually starts @ 8 AM.
3. Still doing Joshua Tree.
4. Cancelling the Painted Canyon Tour in the summer.
– REPORT that they are only doing one tour and get off the Desert floor before it gets hot. Start earlier.
– DISCUSSION of why the hottest time of the day is around 4 PM. i.e. adobe houses.
– REPORT of the Indian Canyons Tour. The flowers, the streams are all running out of their banks. It’s cooler there. HAS THE BIGGEST CA. FAN PALM OASIS in the World!!!
– REPORT that there are 5 Canyons; Palm, Andreas, Murray, Chino and Tahquitz.
– DISCUSSION of the training the almost 40 guides go thru.
– REPORT that there are usually 4 major tours 1. San Andreas Fault Tour in a Jeep; 2. Indian Canyons Tour in a Jeep w/ hiking; 3. Joshua Tree National Park Tour in SUVs w/ some hiking; 4. Painted Canyons Tour in Mecca Hills in a Jeep, w/ emphasis on agriculture in the Valley.

– REPORT on NYC where one of his children is graduating. City seems clean, w/ a large police presence. Seeing “Funny Girl” on stage.
- QUESTIONS FROM “JOEY PALS” in the “Medicine Cabinet”.
1. If a pregnant woman eats lots of fruit will she be protected from miscarriages? (This is true. 1/3 of all pregnancies end in miscarriages. Eating fruits actually can decrease the chances of a miscarriage by 61%.
2. Has a hidden cause of Parkinsons been discovered? Called TCE? (Yes. TCE was more prevalently found in cleaning products and enters the water and the soil and stays there. Not used so much anymore. The cause of other things too.)
3. Do people who live to 90 have superior thinking skills and don’t seem to get Alzheimers? (Yes, studies of the “old-old” folks still have the same signs of Alzheimers in their brains, but it never develops. Still being studied.)

– REPORT that DWA will be hosting a couple of RATE workshops this month because as a public service company they are not allowed to make a profit, so an independent entity came in and showed that DWA is NOT charging enough to cover their costs.
– REPORT that these workshops will explain why there will be a rate increase. i.e. because of inflation and also the need to replace lots of pipe.
– REPORT that DWA will be spending 8.5 million a year on pipe replacement.
– REPORT that the public is invited to attend these workshops and ask questions.
– HOLD THE DATE; June 10 @ Cathedral City Senior Center. The first rate workshop was recorded and is on the DWA website to peruse.
– DISCUSSION of the impact of the heat we are getting ready for on our grass and the increased water use we will experience. TIME TO CHECK YOUR SPRINKERS.
