LOVING ALL ANIMALS. w/ Lisa Knox re: Executive Assistant. 83496 – 51st Ave., Coachella, 92236.
– DISCUSSION that the reports on whether or not a dog or cat can get COVID-19 have changed. YES. They can.
– REPORT that the Shelter has changed everything to comply w/ the protocols for COVID-19. I.E. Bathing every animal that comes in. CATS TOO!!
– APPOINTMENT only for adoptions, which are going very well during the “stay at home” order. Shelter front door is monitored via phones. $300. for dogs, $85. for cats. All animals up for adoption are vaccinated, microchipped and spayed/neutered.
– DISCUSSION of how to deal w/ homeless animals. 25 lbs and under LAA will try and help.
– REPORT that the website is being revamped. More interactive.
– NEED for volunteers.
– REPORT on how to take care of animals in this heat.

BROOKDALE MIRAGE INN w/ Kurt Suminski 72750 Country Club Dr., Rancho Mirage, CA., 92270. He’s the Clare Bridge/Memory Facility Co-Ordinator.
– DISCUSSION of the Three levels @ Brookdale care provides: 1.) Independent Living 2). Assisted Living and 3.) Memory Care/Alzheimer’s/Dementia (Clare Bridge). All are to “shelter-in-place”.
– REPORT that there ARE NO COVID-19 cases @ Brookdale!!!!
– REPORT on how the cleaning is accomplished by their housekeeping staff w/ data safety sheets.
– DISCUSSION that Brookdale needs to protect residents living INSIDE and staff coming in from the OUTSIDE.
– REPORT on medical personnel doing VIRTUAL visits when needed.
– REPORT that there are vacancies in Assisted Living.
– REPORT that residents feel safe and secure. Virtual visits w/ families are popular. Visits thru email, facetime, skyping, thru the windows, etc. Families are happy to know their loved one is in such a safe facility.
– REPORT that if a resident is near the end-of-life the family is allowed to be w/ them w/ proper restrictions.
– REPORT that any new residents who move in will have to comply w/ the 14-day quarantine that is in place for the whole country. Lance will guide everyone thru the process. Virtual visits and “porch” visits.
– REPORT on the ventilation system maintenance schedule to combat the airborne virus. Each apartment has its own ventilation system!!!

DEMENTIA HELP CENTER w/ Kae Hammond re: President & Founder; 495 Town Center Way, 44 Ste., B, Palm Desert, CA. 92260.
– DISCUSSION that skilled nursing centers have difficult challenges due to COVID-19 PLUS the additional health issues that may also exist.
– REPORT that there are ZOOM meetings every 2 weeks for caregivers. Alzheimer Coachella Valley does the same thing.
– DISCUSSION of how patients get by without the support groups they were ABLE to attend. Now some groups i.e. “Songshine” are doing ZOOM meetings. Problem is that some older folks don’t like the technology involved.
– DISCUSSION of the challenge of deterioration that may occur for isolated patients AND the caregiver.
– REPORT that DHC will assist caregivers who reach frustrating challenges and help when re-locating patients is needed. Detailed protocol for cleaning and integrating into the new community involved.

– DISCUSSION that Forest Lawn practices “Universal Precaution” NOW and always has. Sometimes there is a veil placed over the deceased as an extra precaution.

NEURO VITALITY CENTER w/ Bev Greer re: Chief Executive Officer @ 2800 E. Alejo Road, Palm Springs, CA. 92262.
– Their Mission Statement. Out-patient services only, etc. Over 40 years in existence. Only facility of its kind IN THE WORLD.
– REPORT that there is no COVID-19 among their clients or staff!!!
– REPORT that their facility is closed to the public @ this point in time. Kitchen, gym, nurse, social worker etc., still working in one form or another.
– REPORT that most of their services have been converted to virtual presentations. NVC is providing tablets AND instruction to their clients who are sheltering @ home so they can take advantage of the virtual on-line classes and services.
– REPORT that they deliver lunch to folks who are homebound.
– DISCUSSION that NVC is willing to advise and/or help you if you have someone living w/ you that NOW needs some guidance and assistance.

DESERT REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER/COMPREHENSIVE CANCER CENTER w/ Dr. Tim Tyler re: 1180 N. Indian Cyn., Palm Springs, CA.
– His specialized services and educational background.
– REPORT that even during this Pandemic, Cancer DOES NOT SLOW DOWN. DCN goes to great lengths to create a “safe” environment for their Cancer patients. How DCN/CCC is dealing w/ the increased anxiety.
– DISCUSSION that the 100 ICU beds @ all the hospitals are full and patients are possibly being sent to San Francisco. More patients were coming in from the Eastern Coachella Valley.
– CALL ahead of time before coming to DCN if you have symptoms. Can’t compromise the patients in the Comprehensive Cancer Center OF COURSE!!
– DISCUSSION of the subject of drugs bought in Mexico. These drugs are manufactured differently sometimes, not patent-protected any longer, etc. Possibly have a different “window” of effectiveness and need close monitoring.
– DISCUSSION of Dr. Tyler’s information about a possible vaccine.
