– ANNOUNCEMENT that they have partnered w/ the Mizell Senior Center. Monday 6.17 @ 9 AM there will be a FREE Stroke Recovery Support Group for caregivers, folks at risk of stroke and interested persons. Will be held every other week through the summer.
– REMINDER that the NVC building, acreage, etc. has been purchased by Eisenhower Health. Transitioning into a new program. Location on Alejo will be closed for about one year while EVERYTHING IS REMODELED. All programs will transfer over to the Boys and Girls Club of Palm Springs @ Sunrise and Ramon. Phone numbers remain the same. Eisenhower is bringing in a new program called PACE.
– REPORT that they are STILL accepting new clients.
– REPORT that the Boys and Girls Club has a full kitchen.
– REPORT that the NVC is located in the Boy’s and Girl’s Club TEEN CENTER. 250 Sunrise.
– REMINDER: they are now open from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM for clients Monday thru Friday.
– REPORT on the “outings” they are having since there is no gym.
– REPORT that their programs are for anyone 18 and older, but the majority of their clients are 55 plus.

– MISSION STATEMENT that Dementia Help Center is the rescue plan for family caregivers. Offer individual and family coaching, personalized planning, care management and placement when the time comes. Fear cripples, but knowledge empowers. Strive to educate, inform and manage the disease and then to thrive.
– DISCUSSION of how Kae got into this work. At the time, 20 years ago, stats said 64% of caregivers will DIE or develop a life altering condition BEFORE their patient.
– REPORT on how important it is to care for the caregiver.
– REPORT that there are new medications that APPEAR to be helping.
– SUGGESTIONS FOR DEALILNG W/ SUMMER TRAVEL.
1. Advise visitors of what to expect from the patient IS NOW. The changes since you saw him last.
2. Advise visitors that the patient’s memory is now more child-like and they remember you only as a child.
3. Introduce yourself again and tell visitors to do the same.
4. Be prepared to show them where things are they don’t remember…i.e. the bathroom.
5. Control your voice and manage your patience levels.
6. Be careful about crowds.
7. Stick to their routine as much as possible.
8. Take advantage of available perks when traveling by air.
9. Introduce a new “tradition”.

1. Agents are beginning to prepare for 2025. (Begins in June. AHIP Certification that is a special requirement for a licensed insurance agent to have a conversation about Medicare part C or D. and an agent must get this EVERY YEAR.)
2. Change to Medicare Part D, which is your prescription drugs. You can get this one of 2 ways;
a. GOOD NEWS; Putting an “out of pocket” maximum on Part D. $2,000. Max. This will automatically change, established by CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services).
b. Part of Medicare Advantage.

3. Measles @ Seattle International Airport and now an increase in U.S. cases? (Worst measles case load in US in years. Very contagious. Lots of hospitalizations. Lots of cases in Europe. Whooping cough is returning too.)
4. What causes a cleft palate? (There is a genetic component to a cleft palate. Easy to fix surgically. Mothers who smoke during pregnancy can contribute to its cause as well).
