CITY OF PALM SPRINGS FIRE DEPT. w/ Taylor Teeple Fire Marshall re: 300 El Cielo Road, Palm Springs, CA. 92262.
– DISCUSSION of his history and job progression in the Fire Department and that he’s been w/ the P.S. Fire Dept. for 9 years.
– EXPLANATION of his duties as the Fire Plans Examiner.
– DISCUSSION of duties for the Fire Marshall and tips in the extreme heat.
1. Understanding the “high fire areas”.
2. How to clear OLD, DEAD brush. Vegetation management crews are clearing city lots. Clear 200 feet from existing structures and 10 feet from the roadway. (to protect firemen and fire engines and give them room to work) This inspection is done on a regular basis. Also inspecting for homeowners too.
3. DISCUSSION of the misconception that the “desert doesn’t burn”.
4. ADVICE that on the website there are guidelines for brush clearing. www.palmspringsca.gov.

– REPORT that about 5 % of the 911 calls are for actual fires, most 911 calls are for the Paramedics.
