– DISCUSSION of snakes; all snakes are cold-blooded or ectothermic, because they get their internal temperature from the outside temperature. Joey’s Koi Fish go into stasis type of brumation.
– REPORT that some snakes lay eggs (overvigorous – where we get the word viper from) but as soon as they are laid, they hatch. Other snakes lay eggs, and they take a while to hatch.
– REPORT that the Mohave Green is possibly the most dangerous snake in the Valley.
– REPORT that snakes can strike from any position, not just coiled. Can strike up to 1/3 of it’s body length.
– DISCUSSION that NO snake is poisonous, they are venomous, which must be injected directly into the blood system.
– REPORT that young snakes are more dangerous than older snakes. Older snakes can regulate the amt. of energy it takes to express venom. Young snakes can’t regulate their venom, so they will give you ALL the venom they have. IF YOU GET A SNAKE BITE, GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM.

– DISCUSSION that she offers classes, one-to-one classes, access to phone calls from gals @ all stages of pregnancy, delivery, nursing etc. ALL CLASSES ARE FREE.
– REPORT that we have about 250 moms who deliver each year.
– REPORT on women wanting to Get Pregnant after their careers are in place; Challenges gals face to get pregnant. Fertility issues and the new genetic blood test that can check for birth defects earlier. Non-invasive, can be done earlier than amniocentesis. Very needed now. Moms are a bit older than previous generations of Moms.
– REPORT that ALL pregnant women get earlier ultrasounds and tests now. Tests canb even measure all the bones of the fetus along the way. Checks all the internal organs. D.O.H.C. has a Maternal Fetal Specialist too.
– REPORT on Delivery; Childbirth preparation. Babies are delivered @ Desert Regional. There is also lots of support for nursing.

– DISCUSSION of pain management options during labor and delivery. Doulas are professionals who provide continuous emotional, physical and informational support to a pregnant mom and her partner before, during and after childbirth, aiming to help them achieve a safe and satisfying birth experience. Sandra covers “non-medical” treatments. You can WALK around during the early stages of labor.
– DISCUSSION that Sandra was giving birth in the era of “natural childbirth”.
– REPORT that even during a “C-Section” delivery the husband can be in the room.
– DISCUSSION of the different positions for delivery. Birthing chair; can also lay on your side especially if you have back issues; traditional position of laying on your back; on your hands and knees on the bed. (can’t use this position if you have an epidural.)
– DISCUSSION of pain management for delivery. 1. Epidural which is a catheter that makes you numb from the waist down. 2. Some birthing centers use “laughing gas”.
– DISCUSSION of breast feeding. D.O.H.C. offers a virtual class on nursing, especially for the first couple of weeks. The American Academy recommends nursing for a minimum of 1 year.
