J.- MISSION is for the Community to come together and be good to each other.
C.- REPORT that he will be doing something @ the Cultural Center in April.
C. REPORT on his new role and how the Food Bank has been enlarged. Serves 325 families A WEEK. Depends on the community. Lots of Seniors on fixed incomes. Families too.
C. HOLD THE DATE: Charles Huff’s “Love, Celebration & History” thru Feb., 28. 2901 E. Alejo Road for the Food Pantry. COME AND DONATE. Distribution Thurs., 5 – 7. Donations Monday thru Friday.
C. REPORT on how/where he gets the food. Even private citizens donate. Rice, pasta, beans etc.,
C. DISCUSSION that the Food Bank is not geared to homeless. Of the 325 a week they serve only 10 are homeless. Need to remove the stigma about needing something.

W. – TODAY, FRI., FEB., 14 celebration of wine and cheese for their 14th year anniversary. Also 1 year of having hydrotherapy here in the Desert. Anyone who comes in for the first time will get a complimentary massage for their doggie.
W. – DISCUSSION of what Wendy does to help dogs w/ hydrotherapy. Low-impact exercise. Helps your dog to fight aging issues, weight loss and more. Enhances range of motion, balance, mobility and flexibility. Can be customized to your dog’s needs. Relaxes both mind and body. Done in warm water. Treats stress and loneliness. Example of “Jack”.
W. – DISCUSSION of Canine massage therapy. Description of the tank and treadmill. Wendy gets in the warm water w/ the dog. Good for all ages and types of dogs. Helps w/ joint support, stress and pain. Can add aromatherapy and music therapy. Improves sleep. Increases circulation and healthy bowels. Located @ Barkingham Pet Hotel. She’s working on a video.
L. – REPORT on Barkingham Pet Hotel and it’s history since 2011. A one-stop shop. 24/7 service.
L. – REPORT on all her overnight boarding services, , grooming, pet art (photography), doggie day-care, training, AND THE CATTERY for the cats, etc.
L. – REPORT ON her new building. The Barkingham Wellness Center. Description of all the services. Flat screen TVs, rock wall, big beds, closed service tv for the owner, 24/7 hour staff. Doggie Day Care, grooming, and accommodations.
L. – REPORT CAT BOARDING TOO in a cat condo w/ glass to see out. Things to climb on. The “Intercaternental”.

– REPORT that puppy and kitten season NEVER REALLY ENDS. Ramps up in the Springs.
– DISCUSSION that spay and neuter services are more reasonably priced and even financial aid is available.

2. “Have a Heart” for homeless pets anytime in Feb., donate on-line. If you want to do an “Anti-Valentines” and their name will go on the kitty litter box for a donation!!!!
3. Sat., Feb., 15 Bingo @ Dicks in Palm Springs from 2 to 4 PM.
4. First Sat., every month; Adoption. 11 AM – 1 PM Pet Smart on Monterey in Palm Desert.
– REPORT on the Adoption fees are $90 for kitties and $250. for puppies.
– REPORT that volunteers are ALWAYS NEEDED.

– MISSION STATEMENT; Dementia Help Center is the rescue plan for family caregivers. Offer individual and family coaching, personalized planning, care management and placement when the time comes. Fear cripples, but knowledge empowers. Strive to educate, inform and manage the disease and then to thrive.
– DISCUSSION of how IMPORTANT it is to get a proper diagnosis. More than 10 million people are diagnosed in the world each YEAR!!! Each form “presents” differently. This diagnosis guides the doctor as to how to treat and also guides the family as to what to expect.
– REPORT on the first signs of Dementia; memory loss. Alzheimers Causes “short term” memory loss; Vascular dementia results in executive disfunction and is caused by TIAs (planning and carrying out tasks); frontal temporal dementia causes language and behavioral issues.
– PARKINSONS is one of the 100 types of dementia. May not have cognitive impairment until 10 years into it.
– REPORT that there are over 100 forms of Dementia. Really only 12 prevalent ones. Vascular Dementia is the 2nd most common. Alzheimer’s is the 1st most common.
– 10 TIPS FOR ALZHEIMER’S & DEMENTIA FAMILY CAREGIVERS.
1. Recognize & accept that things are now different.
2. Control your tone of voice & manage your patience levels.
3. Be careful about “crowds”.
4. Provide family members & friends an update, in advance.
5. Ask everyone to introduce themselves.
6. Honor their comfort zone.
7. Accompany your loved one into the public restroom.
8. Stick to their routine as much as possible.
9. Take advantage of available perks when traveling by air.
10. Introduce a new “tradition”.

– MISSIONS STATEMENT: To assist children from a low income, limited English speaking environment develop to their fullest potential by learning to read, comprehend and speak English, while understanding that people care about them as individuals.
– REPORT that they are in 24 schools in 3 districts. From the Salton Sea to Desert Hot Springs. Goes from “transitional kindergarten” to 6th grade.
– REPORT that they began 20 years ago and currently have over 400 volunteers, BUT MORE ARE NEEDED. Only asks for 1 hour a week, will train you and transport you if needed.
– DISCUSSION that the children REALLY LOOK forward to these sessions, because they know you are there FOR them.
– REPORT on how the books are chosen. Have books for all levels. 20,000 books were donated last year and serviced about 10,000 children.
– REPORT that they have a FREE book fair twice a year.
– REPORT that they give the children books for their very own and the kids take them home and share w/ their siblings and parents.
