PALM SPRINGS POLICE DEPARTMENT w/ Lt. William Hutchinson re: Head of Intelligence
– TOPIC TODAY; Drones as First Responder.
1. Saving lives minute by minute in the country.
2. Flying drones to scenes of emergencies due to listening to 911 calls as a Drone Operator, (sitting in the command center) can launch within 10 seconds and be “on scene” in 30 seconds, even before an officer has been dispatched. A drone can get within a mile in less than a minute. Three drones are on rooftops in Palm Springs, w/ more to come.
Can “see” and “zoom” in. Can fly “silent”, can “voice” commands, can send video/image to all entities involved immediately.
Therefore, there is amazing “situational awareness”; i.e. know where the “bad guy” is; increasing apprehension rates, can stop sending police if there is no need. They have thermal imaging systems and lighting systems. Also has voice activation as well.
– REPORT that Chula Vista was a “test” site for this process.
– REPORT that Drones are regulated by the FAA.
3. Now our Palm Springs Police Department under the leadership of Chief Andrew Mills has “Real Time Intelligence”.

– The Aquatic Center is City Owned, but run by the YMCA of the Desert.
– Heading into a FULL RENOVATION in the Fall. Filters, etc., are wearing out. Staff is keeping the pools open. Closing lap pool once in a while. Fri. – Sunday the lap pool WILL BE OPEN. The REST is all open.
– Most of the access is FREE. Parking is FREE. Small charge for the Aquatic Center. New obstacle course there.
– The library has been renovated (inside the park).

– REPORT The Tram is the #1 Tourist attraction in the C.V. and the #8 IN THE WORLD place for cliff-side dining by Architectural Digest and the temperature at the Top of the Tram is 40 degrees cooler than on the Desert Floor. In the 60’s and 70’s. You can buy a jacket at the gift shop if you need. Great place to send your visitors.
– DISCUSSION w/ how to deal w/ all the crowds. Make a reservation.
– REPORT that the views are amazing. You can see for 50 miles. Can even see the Pacific Ocean from the Top of the Tram!!!

3. Is bottled water safe? Does it cause cancer? (The FDA regulates bottled water. Best to drink water in polyurethane or glass bottles.)
4.How long is strep contagious? (Worse if you don’t have your tonsils. All ages. You are contagious BEFORE you know you have it. About 2 to 5 days, BEFORE A DIAGNOSIS?)
