Listen to Seg 2

POLICE DEPARTMENT CITY OF PALM SPRINGS w/ Palm Springs Chief of Police Andrew Mills re; 200 S. Civic Dr., P.S. 92262.
– REPORT on the concerns in our community from “Joey Pals”:
1. Do you feel about the police situation in the City of Palm Springs? (Optimistic, how the officers feel, etc.).
2. Is recruitment down in Palm Springs? (This is not a problem here. Since the Chief got here the roster is almost full and plenty of people in the pipeline. Takes about a year and a half to educate and train an officer.).
– REPORT on his being honored @ the Tour de Palm Springs. The support of the police for all community events. His officers do a lot of overtime and are truly dedicated.
– DISCUSSION of his family and wife Cathy and their involvement in the community.
3. Is jaywalking not a ticketed offense now? (That’s true but in Palm Springs they will get a warning to be certain they are safe.).
– REPORT that violent crimes are DOWN.
– REPORT on how to be a good, observant citizen.
– REPORT on his views on the homeless population. Not concerned about their “status” but their “behaviors”. Focus on the top 30 folks who need attention. Will enforce several “hot spots”.
– DISCUSSION of the “census” of the homeless population just taken. Got 266 head count. Will count every 2 years, 2 or 3 times a year to see how we are doing.
– DISCUSSION of how police work functions in our City vs. other places.
