Parliamentarian and Sgt.-At-Arms for the Hispanic American Police Officers Command Association and Jeff Cole, from the American Legion Riders Group and acting Sgt.-at-Arms from Post 519 and Commander of the VFW in Desert Hot Springs.
– REPORT that Tony de Maio, the CEO and President, started/founded “Helping Heroes USA” and providing this time for us to talk about all these issues.
– REPORT on the mission statement; as a non-profit, to help the Veteran and First Responder organizations in serving their members and communities to feel better about themselves. “Helping Heroes USA” supplies funds, marketing, consulting, and organizational tools @ no charge to the organizations.
– EXAMPLE of the events that HELPING HEROES USA sponsors all over the world. Tony de Maio has a business background and tremendous people skills. He lives in Sun City, Palm Desert.
– DISCUSSION that most American Legion Posts have Riders.
– REPORT on the spirit of the American Legion Riders.
– HOLD THE DATE; Sat., April 13, there will be PTSD SUICIDE AND PREVENTION WALK. 22 K Walk. Sponsored by C.C. Evening Rotary and the City of Cathedral City. At Dennis Keat Soccer Park. Will honor a Veteran who took his own life. To raise money you can register and get information on the Walk call (760) 272-6997 or email invisible22wounds@nullgmail.com.
– DISCUSSION of the Silent Auction and other ways to donate.
– REPORT that Mission 22 serves Veterans who suffer from PTSD and are possible suicide victims.
– REPORT to call 988 to report/prevent a suicide.
– DISCUSSION that for every reported suicide 135 people are affected.
– REPORT on the blue caps for the membership in the American Legion; blue and white caps are for the district commanders; white caps for the department of CA.
– REPORT that Veterans are housed w/ other Veterans if they have legal, emotional, stress issues, rather than the general public where their issues are not recognized.
– PLANS for homeless veteran affordable housing. i.e. a 20-unit apartment complex.
