– 60 % of stroke deaths occur in women. 1 in 5 women will have a stroke.
– Women are twice as likely to have a stroke as to have breast cancer.
– Men have more strokes, but more women die from them.
– Someone has a stroke every 40 seconds. This is unfortunate because most strokes are preventable.
– There are unique risk factors for women: i.e. high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, migraines w/ an aura, smoking, etc.
– Stroke is the leading cause of adult disability in this country.
– Strokes are usually “lifestyle” issues.
