DESERT REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER w/ Gael Whetstone, BSN, RN. re: Trauma Prevention Coordinator.
– Deliver excellence in trauma care and deliver excellence in education in an effort to prevent the need for trauma care.
– She is addressing the fact that we have 4 times the national average in pedestrian deaths. Had 3 deaths last month alone.
– Guidelines: carry a flashlight, wear light colors, be AWARE, too much distraction either crossing the street or driving while texting or talking.
– Gael speaks out in the community on any/all issues. Just call her.
– Desert Care Network’s/D.R.M.C.’s brochure called: “People Don’t Come w/ Airbags”….Street Safety Tips for pedestrians, drivers and cyclists.
– Discussion of a national program “Active Shooter Scenario” class called “stop the bleeding”. Call her for details. Three steps: 1. Tourniquet, 2. Direct pressure and 3. Wound pressure.
