Now the volunteer staff is doing a snack bar and drinks. Fee is $10. Bring you sheet music AND IF YOU DON’T HAVE ANY, don’t worry, Joel can play anything.
– ANNOUNCEMENT that the Center will celebrate every holiday in December.
– REPORT that their programs are for anyone 18 and older, but the majority of their clients are 55 plus.
– DISCUSSION of the onset of depression as we near the Holidays. Allan is starting a “telephone tree” of folks to check on each other.

– REPORT on “Forbidden Broadway” and the costumes he sewed.

DEMENTIA HELP CENTER w/ Lisa Stanford, re: 75-270 Hwy., 111, Ste., 204, Indian Wells 92210.
– MISSION STATEMENT that Dementia Help Center is the rescue plan for family caregivers. Offer individual and family coaching, personalized planning, care management and placement when the time comes. Fear cripples, but knowledge empowers.
– QUESTIONS FROM “JOEY PALS”
1. Does the position you sleep in influence whether or not you might get Dementia?(Yes, best to sleep on your side because it improves the cleansing system for the brain)
2. Read where the brain folds you develop in utero can determine whether or not you might develop Dementia? (Yes, technically frontal temporal lobe dementia is determined by the folds in the brain as they develop during pregnancy.)
3. What fruits will lower your chances of getting Dementia? (Berries. Pectins in these berries lessen the onset and severity of Dementia. Play “brain games”.)
4. Early heart rhythms are linked to developing Dementia. (Yes, not getting enough of something (blood, oxygen) to the brain.)
– TIPS FOR GETTING THRU THE HOLIDAYS
1. Manage your expectations of what your loved one is capable of. Advise the people you will be visiting it may have been a while since your loved one has been seen. Give them all a head’s up as to what to expect.
2. Have a “quiet” area for your loved one @ a busy family event.
3. It may be better to visit during the Holidays @ their care facility than trying to take them on a trip/outing.
4. Watch their energy levels, i.e. if they are use to a nap.
5. If you do travel, advise the airline that you are traveling w/ someone w/ Dementia/Alzheimer’s.
6. Provide their favorite music on a headset.
– REPORT that you should go from “care giver” to “care manager”. 70% of family members caring for a family member will develop a life-threatening illness.
– REPORT on their bi-monthly “THRIVE” support group for ALL LEVELS IS BACK. Open to clients, family, care-givers. They also have a ZOOM meeting. Call for the link. FREE CONSULTATIONS. Indian Wells group meets 1st and 3rd Wed., of each month. La Quinta group meets 2nd and 4th Wed., in Old Town. of each month.

– REPORT that he’s glad the Dec., 7 deadline is over.
– REPORT that there are over 100 to 110 Medicare Advantage Plans available in Riverside County.
– DISCUSSION that the Bilhartz Desert Insurance Company had a great season.
– REPORT that the problem is FINDING the right specialists and coordinating care.
– REPORT that from Jan., 1 to Mar., 31, 2024 there’s a secondary enrollment period. Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period.
– DF. if you have a Medicare Advantage program whether you changed it or not you have the chance to MAKE ONE MORE CHANGE after AEP. (Annual Enrollment Program). Medicare says your can’t market the “catch-up” program. Brian is not marketing, but educating. This change really shows up when you go to the pharmacy and the tier that your medications are on has been changed and you are shocked.
– REPORT that the information for the MAOEP is just as involved as the AEP.
– If you have Medicare Advantage you are 4 times less likely to be hospitalized AND re-admitted. 2 times less likely to have chronic illnesses. 1.4 times less likely to need drugs.
– Then for Medicare Advantage folks there’s an open enrollment from Jan., 1 – Mar., 31, 2024. You can make ONE MORE CHANGE @ this point in time. On Jan., 2 all things will have changed if you haven’t taken care of the paperwork no later than Dec., 7.
– REPORT that you should get an Annual Notification of Change from your insurance company. THERE ARE SO MANY CHANGES COMING, not all are for the better.
– REPORT that the Medicare Advantage Plans ARE COUNTY SPECIFIC.
– REPORT that all costs WILL INCREASE. Watch the changes in drug costs.
– REPORT that his agency focuses on Medicare. Not many agents do this specialty. He will have on-line and in-person classes to attend to keep up w/ the changes. He has 42 agents that work under him.
– REPORT that Medicare is NOT just for older persons.
– DISCUSSION of his association w/ the clients from D.O.H.C. He is the LOCAL agent and phone number!!!!
– REPORT that there is no cost to help his clients make a sound decision about their Medicare needs and the clients DON’T PAY HIM.
– REPORT that he can’t speak to the changes until Oct. If you didn’t make changes YOU CANNOT for the rest of the year. Now we are in a “lock in” period thru the end of year.
– REPORT that this is so complicated one should work w/ Brian to get through it. WATCH out for “tricks”…..speak w/ Brian to be certain.
– REPORT that Brian will serve his clients in their home, in his office, on the phone. He has all the special classification to do all of this.
