– MISSION STATEMENT that Dementia Help Center is the rescue plan for family caregivers. Offer individual and family coaching, personalized planning, care management and placement when the time comes. Fear cripples, but knowledge empowers. Strive to educate, inform and manage the disease and then to thrive.
– REPORT on her clients overall. Clients KNOW when they are experiencing changes long before their friends and family realize the subtle changes. Then there is a MOMENT when the family and friends finally realize. Then it makes it easier to navigate.
– REPORT that there are over 100 forms of Dementia. Really only 12 prevalent ones. Vascular Dementia is the 2nd most common. Alzheimer’s is the 1st most common.
– DISCUSSION of “how” clients go thru the process of shifting and losing capacity. FEAR, ANGER, come into play.
– SUGGESTION that the best way to be supportive of a client is to say “I’ll be here w/ you and we’ll go thru this together.” Expand your knowledge of the services of Hospice to help.

– REPORT that the Joslyn Center has at least 80 programs, activities and FREE COUNSELING for folks.
– REPORT on the Singles “Dining Out Group”.
– REPORT that the Center is open Monday thru Friday 8 AM 5 PM. They are a COOLING CENTER. Stop in, get water and a snack, cool down and engage in activities if you like.
– REPORT that they are an Adult Senior Center and that they have over 80 classes and clubs every week. Check the calendar on their website.
– ANNOUNCEMENT that there is a Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Club. They play cards etc., GREAT.

– MEDICARE PART D – the most utilized component of your Medicare because you take your medications EVERY DAY.
– REPORT on the big changes for Medicare Part D coming in 2025, especially in the “donut hole”. Possible limit of $2,000. for out-of-pocket costs. Affects the formulary going forward. 33% of personal costs will go up to 50% next year.
– REPORT on Medicare Part D. For drugs. Most Medicare Advantage Plans have this. Medicare is going to put a cap in 2025 on the out-of-pocket maximum of $2000. for Part D. GREAT.
– SUBJECT FOR “JOEY PALS”
1. Agents are beginning to prepare for 2025. (Begins in June. AHIP Certification that is a special requirement for a licensed insurance agent to have a conversation about Medicare part C or D. and an agent must get this EVERY YEAR.)
2. Change to Medicare Part D, which is your prescription drugs. You can get this one of 2 ways;
a. GOOD NEWS; Putting an “out of pocket” maximum on Part D. $2,000. Max. This will automatically change, established by CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services).
b. Part of Medicare Advantage.
– REPORT that all costs WILL INCREASE for most other folks. Watch the changes in drug costs, deductibles and co-payments.
– REPORT that is BAD NEWS is that there will be shrinking Formularies. (the list of medications that Medicare covers)
– REPORT that Brian will serve his clients in their home, in his office, on the phone. He has all the special classification to do all of this.

1. What is the CYP2D6 gene? (Makes an enzyme in your liver to “break down” certain drugs in your liver. Everyone has this gene. Then the drug goes into your body and is effective. There are multiple enzymes in your liver that help. If the gene is not working as well as it should can affect the ability of the drug to work properly. Pharmacogenomics is this new area of study. Tested w/ a blood test.)
2. What about listeria in the recalled Boar’s Head Meats? (Bacteria that is in deli meat and usually comes from processing plants. Symptoms are flu-like. There are over-the-counter meds to treat this. Can be life-threatening in certain situations.)

3. What and why about portable oxygen machines? (They furnish CLEANER and BETTER oxygen to the patient. The portable machines are perfectly safe. They purify the air for the patient. All you really want to breathe is oxygen, not nitrogen etc. May or may not have to sleep w/ it. Too much oxygen is not good either. Tank requires a prescription.)
4. Are there “different” flu shots? (Yes, D.O.H.C. has different ones. They are trivalent, not quadrivalent because one of the strains is not around, so it was taken out of the vaccine. Perhaps the Covid and Flu vaccines will be combined. Recommendations for RSV vaccine has changed this year. For most of the population, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime shot. NEW COVID vaccine this year. If it’s been more than 2 months since you last Covid Vaccine, time for another one.)
