– DISCUSSION that Allan is going to audition @ Revolution Stage Company for the next Season’s cast.
– REPORT that the NVC is a “cooling center” in this heat.
– REPORT on some of the volunteer activities;
1. Mom & Pop volunteers
2. Limited exercise due to heat
– ANNOUNCEMENT that they have partnered w/ the Mizell Senior Center. Every Monday there will be a FREE Stroke Recovery Support Group for caregivers, folks at risk of stroke and interested persons. Will be held every other week through the summer.
– REMINDER that the NVC building, acreage, etc. has been purchased by Eisenhower Health. Transitioning into a new program. Location on Alejo will be closed for about one year while EVERYTHING IS REMODELED. All programs will transfer over to the Boys and Girls Club of Palm Springs @ Sunrise and Ramon. Phone numbers remain the same. Eisenhower is bringing in a new program called PACE.
– REPORT that they are STILL accepting new clients.
– REPORT that the Boys and Girls Club has a full kitchen.
– REPORT that the NVC is located in the Boy’s and Girl’s Club TEEN CENTER. 250 Sunrise.
– REMINDER: they are now open from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM for clients Monday thru Friday.
– REPORT on the “outings” they are having since there is no gym.
– REPORT that their programs are for anyone 18 and older, but the majority of their clients are 55 plus.
– DISCUSSION of how to become a client. Call and ask for Rudy.
– REPORT on the Memory Care Facility.
1. Free 3 days a week
2. Two programs; CBAS and Memory Club.
3. A safe environment.
4. Transportation via Sunline. Once you are in the Sunline system you can use it for all your needs, not just the NVC.

DEMENTIA HELP CENTER w/ Lisa Stanford, re: 75-270 Hwy., 111, Ste., 204, Indian Wells 92210.
– MISSION STATEMENT that Dementia Help Center is the rescue plan for family caregivers. Offer individual and family coaching, personalized planning, care management and placement when the time comes. Fear cripples, but knowledge empowers. Strive to educate, inform and manage the disease and then to thrive.
– QUESTIONS FROM JOEY PALS.
1. What are the signs of dementia. Can it come on overnight? (CANNOT come on overnight. Sepsis and other things can mimic dementia when one is dehydrated. Can cause fainting, falls and hallucinations).
2. Symptoms of dementia; (1. Cognitive/Mental decline. 2. Disorientation, especially toward the evening.. 3.“Word salad” inability to speak coherently or can’t come up w/ the right word or name. 4. Make things up, stories and facts. 5. Behavioral/personality changes; shows as a lack of restraint, become quick to anger. 6. Begin to lose their way, forgetting how to get somewhere they’ve always known. 7. ESPECIALLY a change in their gait. I.E. muscular issues.)
3. REPORT that drugs can help but NOT CURE, AND other people, especially families ALWAYS KNOW.
– REPORT on their DHC’s bi-monthly “THRIVE” support group for ALL LEVELS IS BACK. Open to clients, family, caregivers. They also have a ZOOM meeting. Call for the link. FREE CONSULTATIONS. Indian Wells group meets 1st and 3rd Wed., of each month. La Quinta group meets 2nd and 4th Wed., in Old Town. of each month.

– REPORT that the Center is open Monday thru Friday 8 AM 5 PM. They are a COOLING CENTER. Stop in, get water and a snack, cool down and engage in activities if you like.
– REPORT that they are an Adult Senior Center and that they have over 75 classes and programs every week. Check the calendar on their website.
– ANNOUNCEMENT that they have FREE movies on the weekends as well.
– REPORT that membership is $30./year. Sign up on-line and sign up for the FREE newsletter that comes out every week, even during the summer.

– REPORT on the mission statement; as a non-profit, to help the Veteran and First Responder organizations in serving their members and communities to feel better about themselves. “Helping Heroes USA” supplies funds, marketing, consulting, and organizational tools @ no charge to the organizations.
– EXAMPLE of the events that HELPING HEROES USA sponsors all over the world. Tony de Maio has a business background and tremendous people skills. He lives in Sun City, Palm Desert.
– REPORT to get Veterans out and active to help them realize they still have a life. i.e. bicycle rides etc.
– REPORT on their American League Baseball team out here. Last year they had 1 team, THIS YEAR THERE ARE 7 TEAMS. Steve Garvey is donating his time in support of these teams.
– REPORT ON BOYS AND GIRLS STATE: 1,000 students went to Sacramento to understand citizenship. Volunteer program supported by the American Legion.
– DISCUSSION of the spirit of Americanism in this day and age.
– DISCUSSION of the housing situation for Veterans. They get a voucher for housing but when it expires in order to get a new voucher, they must first go back to being homeless!!!
– REPORT that Veterans are housed w/ other Veterans if they have legal, emotional, stress issues, rather than the general public where their issues are not recognized.
– PLANS for homeless veteran affordable housing. i.e. a 20-unit apartment complex.
