– DISCUSSION of the Three levels @ Brookdale care provides: 1.) Independent Living 2.) Assisted Living and 3.) Memory Care/Alzheimer’s/Dementia (Clare Bridge) that Kurt oversees.
– REPORT on the New Year’s Eve observances @ Brookdale.
– REPORT on Ashley’s (Program director in Levels #1 and #2) “Drunken Bingo” fun on New Year’s Eve.
– REPORT that his residents are in Tier #1 to receive the vaccine. They are partnered w/ CVS Pharmacies to get the shots. CVC will come to Brookdale to administer the vaccine.
– DISCUSSION of the attitude of the residents w/ regard to getting the vaccine, OR NOT. #3 Residents will not really comprehend the shot/vaccine. The residents will be comforted by the presence of the staff.
– REPORT that residents can have “porch visits”, zoom/skype/facetime/virtual meetings etc. EVERY apartment has their own window/porch. Some residents do phone calls/virtual visits each day. Even the “lower” functioning residents react w/ joy and positivity.
– REPORT that there are openings for new residents at this point in time @ Brookdale. In #2 (Assisted Living) and #3 (Memory Care) levels of Brookdale.
– DISCUSSION of how driving privileges are determined in Independent and Assisted Living.

– DISCUSSION of his loss of his wife of 49 years a month ago. How he has handed down various things of Linda’s and the example for all of us in talking about these things “beforehand”.

NEURO VIALITY SEGMENT w/ Dr. Jay Seller re: Program Director and Executive Director. 2800 E. Alejo, Palm Springs, CA.
– REPORT on the history of events for 2020. As of March 1, 2020 they were a Community-based Adult Services Program. As of May 1, 2020 they closed down and became a source of virtual services. The state has acknowledged seeing the benefits of the virtual activities. They are the ONLY C.V.A.S. (Coachella Valley Adult Services) facility in the Valley.
– REPORT that the facility is closed @ this point in time, but the virtual services are available @ different times during the day.
– DISCUSSION that the target audience for NVC services is anyone who has had a neurological event, no matter the age. Patients range from 19 to 78 years of age. There are individual “groups” for different issues.
– DISCUSSION that a physician here in the Valley can refer someone to NVC and Jay and his staff will take care of EVERYTHING from there.
– REPORT that clients can be anywhere and access the services of the NVC virtually, etc.
– REPORT on their meal services Monday thru Friday to their clients.
– REPORT that they can see clients on a “one-on-one” basis but haven’t had to do this process yet.
– DISCUSSION that they can create their own schedule for their clients.
– REPORT that NVC takes insurances.

DESERT CARE NETWORK w/ Dr. John Legge, M.D. Re: Desert Care Network/Desert Regional Medical Center @ 1180 N. Indian Canyon, Palm Springs.
– REPORT that Dr. Legge is a neurologist. He’s an expert in the movement disorders associated w/ Parkinsons.
1.) Definition of Parkinsons. i.e. starts in the brain. Men have this more than women.
2.) Age that Parkinsons strikes. i.e. later in life. Increased risk in folks over 60.
3.) Cause of Parkinsons. i.e. bad chemical “actors” in the brain.
4.) Treatments. i.e; At this point in time we just treat the symptoms, not the cause yet. Possible treatments: Stem cells, vaccine, monoclonal antibodies. He is very hopeful for treatment studies and applications this year.
5.) Signs of the onset of Parkinsons. i.e. tremors in the hands, then head, jaw and legs. Not all signs of Parkinsons are manifested w/ tremors.
– DISCUSSION of what point in time one begins treatment for the symptoms.
– DISCUSSION of how he picked this specialty. i.e. His Grandmother. He loves neuroscience.
