– She does the writing for the shelter, helps w/ adoption of animals.
– REPORT that adoptions are up due to “shelter-in-place” order and folks wanting the companionship of an animal(s).
– REPORT on the yearly tips for taking care of your pets in the heat.
– SUGGESTION to keep your dog inside during the hot weather. Not to put water in a metal bowl. The side effects of heat on dogs, especially those w/ flat noses.
– REPORT that where you walk your dog and @ what time. If you can’t put your hand on the pavement, don’t let your doggie walk on that pavement.

BROOKDALE MIRAGE INN w/ Kurt Suminski 72750 Country Club Dr., Rancho Mirage, CA., 92270. He’s the Clare Bridge/Memory Co-Ordinator.
– DISCUSSION of the Three levels @ Brookdale care provides: 1.) Independent Living 2). Assisted Living and 3.) Memory Care/Alzheimer’s/Dementia (Clare Bridge). All are to “shelter-in-place”.
– DISCUSSION of how “SECURE” the residents feel. NO CO-VID-19 CASES. Still NO visitors, except necessary medical/hospice/health personnel.
– REPORT on the “Drive-by” birthday celebration for a resident in assisted living who turned 100!!!!
– REPORT on how the staff and deliveries are handled. Deliveries are made out front and then sanitized when brought inside. All staff is checked upon entering.
– REPORT that residents have “social distancing” for bingo etc. Dining room is still closed. But in “Memory Care” and “Assisted Living” residents can dine with social distancing “in their doorways” AND Ashley has a “bar cart” and delivers pre-ordered cocktails w/ meals for 2 of the levels of living!!
– DISCUSSION of how aware residents were/are of the COVID-19 changes.
– REPORT that on the 23rd everyone is going to be tested.
– REPORT that Amanda, the musical therapist is conducting her sessions via Skype in the “Memory Care” facility.
– VACANCIES are available in “Assisted Living” @ this point in time.
– REPORT that any new residents who move in will have to comply w/ the 14-day quarantine that is in place for the whole country.
– REPORT that potential residents/families can call and have a “virtual tour” to see the facility. Can do a “porch patio” conversational visit as well.

– CONVERSATION about the drawbacks of wearing a mask. Lol
– DISCUSSION of the need to give a family insight, education and support for their loved one suffering w/ any of the 98 forms of dementia and Alzheimer’s ESPECIALLY now. Sharing resources.
– DISCUSSION of the book, “36 Hour Day” by Peter V. Rabins and Nancy L. Mace.
– DISCUSSION of caregivers “burn out” w/ no support system. Causes so many stressful situations, i.e. no sleep etc., ESPECIALLY DURING THIS “SHELTER IN PLACE” time.
– DISCUSSION that Alzheimer’s is not heredity per se. You may carry the gene but not develop the disease.
– REPORT on the home situations @ this point in time. #1 MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS in the country is to caregivers and patients during this “shelter in place” time.

FOREST LAWN w/ Larry Davis re: 69855 E. Ramon Rd., Cathedral City, CA. 92234.
– REPORT on how Fathers and Father’s Day is remembered by people.
– DISCUSSION that both good and bad memories of a father can be turned into happy remembrances over time.
– REPORT that @ this point in time only 50 folks can be in the Chapel @ a time for a funeral service, MUST be family members and can’t gather outside. Names have to be provided to Forest Lawn by the family. Planning meetings for services are thru Skype and/or Zoom, etc. 25% of your building can be full.
– REPORT that Forest Lawn has NEVER been closed, is considered an essential business. Can have 100 people outside and 50 people inside, but socially distant. Forest Lawn will provide masks if needed to mourners.
– REPORT that folks may not GO INTO the cemetery for burial but Forest Lawn can stream/film the interment for the family.
– DISCUSSION of the changes in the emotions and anxiety for families who can’t grieve together now.
– REMINDER of the ever present need to plan your final services especially w/ all the new restrictions.
– MENTION that some times Mothers serve as the Father in the family.

RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK w/ Todd Flood re: “Maracas Mexican Cantina & Grill”. 155 S. Palm Cyn., Dr., Palm Springs, CA. 92262.
– REPORT that Maracas Palm Springs has done all the changes required for social distancing. At this point in time you can’t sit @ the bar, but can drink @ your table.
– REPORT on Maracas Rancho Mirage has stayed open. Take out available.
– REPORT on the Slice in Rancho Mirage is changing a bit. Grab and Go will be available.
– REPORT on J.T.’s Palm Desert is not open @ this point in time. Hope to open in a week or so. Been cleaning extensively. Will have retail product. Old time, retro things to buy. i.e. candied apples.
– REPORT that all will have glass partitions and glass table-tops to be able to sanitized. All servers will have masks. Details of silverware and menus. Restrooms will be cleaned extensively.
– REPORT on food @ both Maracas. Menu will be a bit smaller. Have added great vegetarian items that are delicious. i.e. “impossible burger”, enchiladas, impossible tacos, burritos, etc.
– Will be open 7 days a week. Palm Springs 3 PM to close each day; Rancho Mirage 11AM to close each day.
– Todd gave water to the folks demonstrating peacefully in downtown Palm Springs.

5. “Is COVID-19 losing it potency? “No”. 50% of deaths in the U.S. have been in nursing homes, where everyone is getting tested. Virus is NOT getting weaker.
– REPORT that billions of doses of vaccines are being produced to be ready for the one that works!!!!

– REPORT that Wuhan China went a whole day without any new case. Sweden stated that they underestimated the impact of the virus.
– REPORT that the intensity and density of these protests in the U.S. will impact us all. Depends on distance and time of exposure. We will see an increase in cases.
– DISCUSSION of the pace of the “herd immunity” now. In Coachella Valley we are @ 5 to 6 % and we need to be @ 60% to get any degree of “herd immunity”. WE NEED A VACCINE to accomplish this.
