– REPORT on the “Brookdale @ Home” feature. Personalized live-in companion either in your own home @ first and then eventually @ Brookdale.
– “Brookdale @ Home” companion will do cleaning, cooking, personal hygiene, shopping, etc.
– “Brookdale @ Home” companion will stay w/ an elderly person in the home so that the “care-giver” can leave for a bit.
– Resident can help pick the CA. State Certified companion.
– The established relationship w/ the companion makes the transition from home to Brookdale much smoother.

– DISCUSSION of how to help patients w/ dementia function socially.
– 7 out of 10 family care-givers will develop a chronic condition or actually die before the patient. Very difficult for a care-giver to watch this deterioration. AND this decline can go on FOR YEARS.
– Dementia Help Center is certified as facilitators.
– REPORT on “THRIVE” a FREE a support group for Dementia Family Caregivers. Usually meets 1st and 3rd Wed., of every month @ 10 AM. Hosted by “The Fountains @ the Carlotta”. Call for details.
– DISCUSSION of the fact that just because someone has dementia, does not mean they can’t perform some social, personal functions. Very individual. Depending on the progression of the disease.
– DISCUSSION on how aware or not an individual w/ dementia may be. Individual can “pick up” the vibrations around them.
– REPORT on the term “show time”; how a patient will summon all their energy to seem “normal” in a situation. Causes a feeling of isolation.

– DISCUSSION of not just planning your funeral, BUT plan for your later years, retirement, long term care, etc. as well. A book called “Final Exit”.

– As of Jan., 1 NVC became the ONLY Adult Day Care Center and Community Based Adult Service Provider in the Coachella Valley. Many of their nursing, social, psychological, services @ NVC might be covered by some insurances.
– CHALLENGE of getting this new status required some construction, paperwork, reconfiguring, etc. Saw a critical need for services for this segment of the CV population.
– SAVE THE DATE; 1/29 – DEDICATION of the new facility etc., Open to the public from 4 – 6 PM.
– Open Mon. – Friday.
– Can use volunteers. NVC will train folks. Especially need help w/ the Parkinson’s boxing program!!!! Men and/or women.
