AGUA CALIENTE BAND OF CAHUILLA INDIANS w/ Cathedral City Fire Chief John Muhr. One of the organizations being graciously supported thru the co-ordination of Kate Anderson for the Tribe.
– DISCUSSION of the terms Battalian Chief, Fire Chief, etc., 14 people per shift each day, 7 days a week. 3 Platoons, etc. His history coming up thru the ranks. His 33 years of service. 20 years in Hemet, came to P.S. in 2009.
– REPORT that as Fire Chief he doesn’t respond to incidents per say.
– DISCUSSION of the “child in all of us” that love the red fire engines. The “respect factor” of people pulling to the side of the road when they hear a siren.
– HISTORY of the Dalmatians Dogs who use to ride on the older fire “steamers”.
– REPORT that they actually share their jurisdiction w/ the Tribe. How the Tribe provided personal protective clothing for the fire fighters, some new equipment that was really needed (that was outside the budget in place) and even the new fire station in Cathedral City.
– REPORT on the new computer system in concert w/ the police department that has been provided w/ help from the Tribe. Now there are computer terminals in the fire engines.
– REPORT that they run 6500 calls a year and these terminals in the fire engines, command vehicles and ambulances have really helped.
– DISCUSSION of the different levels of dispatches.
– REPORT on the weight of the equipment fire fighters wear on their back.
– THIS WEEK IS PUBLIC SAFETY DISPATCHERS WEEK.
