ANIMAL SAMARITANS w/ Valerie Kattz and Jarrod Ellis 73-407 Ramon Road, Thousand Palms, CA.
– REPORT on “Men Of The Desert” event on Dec., 3. Very successful. Monies raised go to support their adoption rescue alliance and to the no-kill shelter in Thousand Palms.
– DISCUSSION that donations are needed now. Do an “end of the year” mailer. There is a matching gift up to $15,000. Go to the website or through the mail.
– REPORT that their operating budget per year is $6 to 7 million for the clinics, the shelter and the volunteer programs.
– QUESTION FROM A “JOEY PAL”?
What is canine respiratory illness? (A cold for dogs. Rampant right now. Cough, runny nose. See your vet. This is not the usual “kennel cough”, this is more serious. Perhaps to avoid the dog parks. Can be spread between doggies.)
– REPORT that there is a Senior Care Fund to help in the cost of caring for your pet if you are on a fixed income.

RED JEEP TOURS “MOUNTAINS OF FUN” w/ Rick Curtiss re; 74-794 Lennon Pl., Ste., B. Palm Desert.
– DISCUSSION of his trip to Paris.
– REPORT that Red Jeep is VERY BUSY. All 13 Jeeps have been out twice a day.
– DISCUSSION of what they do and what they tell guests to do when they encounter a rattlesnake. They carry a “snake stick”. The snakes are around the oasis where the water is, because that is where their prey is. A group of rattlesnakes is called a Rhumba or a Coil.
– REPORT that Red-Jeep Tours is in it’s 36th year. Was started by a woman.
– REPORT that reptiles “brumate” and small desert mammals “estivate”.
– REPORT They have 15 Jeeps and 2 SUVs. They have 40 drivers/guides. All are well-trained and make their own tours up. Although there is a list of required things to show on the tour. They run tours 3 or 4 days a week.

– DISCUSSION of roadrunners. Territorial and cannot fly. They eat rattlesnakes. Their footprint has two toes going backward and two toes going forward. Prints don’t tell which direction the bird is going.
