– LATE BREAKING NEWS that the NVC building, acreage, etc. has been purchased by Eisenhower Health. Transitioning into a new program. Location on Alejo will be closed for about one year while EVERYTHING IS REMODELED. All programs will transfer over to the Boys and Girls Club of Palm Springs @ Sunrise and Ramon. Phone numbers remain the same. Eisenhower is bringing in a new program called PACE.
– REPORT that they are STILL accepting new clients.
– REPORT that the Boys and Girls Club has a full kitchen.
– REPORT that the NVC is located in the Boy’s and Girl’s Club TEEN CENTER.
– IMPORTANT TO NOTE: they are now open from 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM for clients Monday thru Friday.
– REMINDER that Open Mike is closed now and the new location is @ the “Play Lounge” @ 4:30 on Wednesdays. Info on the NVC website.
– REPORT that Saturday Showcase has moved over to Revolution Stage Company and Allan will be working w/ Gary Powers there.
– REPORT that their programs are for anyone 18 and older, but the majority of their clients are 55 plus.
– REPORT that there will be outings.
– DISCUSSION of how to become a client. Call and ask for Rudy.
– REPORT on the Memory Care Facility.

DEMENTIA HELP CENTER w/ Kae Hammond, re: 75-270 Hwy., 111, Ste., 204, Indian Wells 92210.
– MISSION STATEMENT that Dementia Help Center is the rescue plan for family caregivers. Offer individual and family coaching, personalized planning, care management and placement when the time comes. Fear cripples, but knowledge empowers. Strive to educate, inform and manage the disease and then to thrive.
– QUESTIONS FROM “JOEY PALS”
1. Can Alzheimer’s be transmitted person to person? (No. Less than 3% of the world has hereditary Alzheimer’s. If it’s in a family thru the generations.)

– REPORT that the brain has a “waste management system”. This cleansing process occurs primarily during deep sleep.
– MENTION of Restorative Sleep and it’s importance. What you need is 18 – 25 minutes of DEEP SLEEP. What you want is 90 minutes of DEEP SLEEP to restore your brain.
– DISCUSSION that most adults spend about 20% of their night in deep sleep.
– REPORT that care-givers need to ask themselves ”How are you”? Many care-givers have “angry” Alzheimer’s family members. The patient IS AWARE that things are changing.
– REPORT on their bi-monthly “THRIVE” support group for ALL LEVELS IS BACK. Open to clients, family, care-givers. They also have a ZOOM meeting. Call for the link. FREE CONSULTATIONS. – DISCUSSION of the Riders; there are 7 of them right now. Women also will be “patched in” soon. He’s trying to bring over things from the VFW in DHS. Once a month they pass out hygiene kits to the homeless. They arrange transportation for the homeless, Veterans too, to their medical appointments.
– DISCUSSION of how to join the American Legion. i.e. parent of a veteran, spouse of a veteran, a child of a veteran, etc., How important the number of members is for the PACT to get the benefits for all veterans.

1. Will Medicare pay for a walk-in tub? (Not considered a Medical Necessity. But certainly a Useful item. “Social determinates of help” are being developed and discussed. More about the environment than about actual care.)
– DISCUSSION of VA Coverage and Medicare Coverage. Will Medicare complement or constrict. People can have both coverages.
– DISCUSSION of “in-home support”. Not covered by Medicare for things could possibly “impact” your health. For this you need long-term care insurance.
– REPORT that Medical DOES have long-term health care. You must first qualify for Medical, which is strictly income-based and then you must qualify for the in-home support.
– REPORT that all costs WILL INCREASE. Watch the changes in drug costs.
– REPORT that this is the time Brian gets involved in educating the Community any way he can.
– REPORT that Medicare is NOT just for older persons.
– REPORT that he will now get to edit the newest edition of the rules and regulation

4. Does Vit. D slow down older brains? (If you feel cognitive slower, Vit. D may help. Low Vit. D levels are linked to Dementia and cognitive impairment. Folks with Lower Vit. D levels are at higher risk of Dementia and your risk of falling is also higher.)
5. What is/causes a fatty level? (Your liver filters everything; especially toxins. Gets fatty (too much food, too much alcohol) and doesn’t function properly. Livers re-grow parts easily. BUT, This can be reversed.)
– REPORT that genetically modified (69 modifications) pig kidneys have been transplanted into a living person who had been on dialysis and had a failed kidney transplant as well. Replaces pig genes w/ human genes. Fascinating.
