BROOKDALE MIRAGE INN w/ Kurt Suminski, Clare Bridge/Memory Co-ordinator 72750 Country Club Dr., Rancho Mirage, CA., 92270.
– DISCUSSION of the Three levels @ Brookdale care provides: 1.) Independent Living 2). Assisted Living and 3.) Memory Care/Alzheimer’s/Dementia (Clare Bridge). All are to “shelter-in-place”.
– DISCUSSION of how “SECURE” the residents feel. NO CASES of any kind. Brookdale is a CLEAN facility, w/ NO cases of COVID-19.
– REPORT on how the staff and deliveries are handled. Deliveries are made outside and then sanitized when brought inside. All staff is checked upon entering.
– REPORT that residents have “social distancing” for bingo etc.
– DISCUSSION that some activities are reduced to conform w/ social distancing. REPORT that the residents call-in their meal service and the meals are delivered to each resident’s room. Residents are sitting in their doorways and carrying on conversations w/ other diners in theirs.
– REPORT that Ashley has a MOBILE COCKTAIL cart.
– DISCUSSION of the mental impact of residents who cannot leave their rooms in Clare Bridge.
– VACANCIES are available. Potential residents/families can call and have a “virtual tour” to see the facility. Can do a “porch patio” conversational visit.
– REPORT that any new residents who move in will have the 14-day quarantine that is in place for the whole country.

FOREST LAWN w/ Larry Davis re: 69855 E. Ramon Rd., Cathedral City, CA. 92234.
– REPORT on how funerals are being conducted now, virtually. Forest Lawn is considered an essential service.
– DISCUSSION that Forest Lawn has ALWAYS practiced “Universal Precautions” w/ remains. Virus doesn’t last long on a deceased person or a body in a casket.
– REPORT that @ this point in time only 10 folks can be in the Chapel @ a time for a funeral service, MUST be family members and can’t gather outside. Names have to be provided to Forest Lawn by the family. Planning meetings for services are thru Skype and/or Zoom, etc.
– REPORT that folks may not GO INTO the cemetery for burial but Forest Lawn can stream/film the interment for the family.
– DISCUSSION of the changes in the emotions and anxiety for families who can’t grieve together now.
– DISCUSSION that Forest Lawn is doing DocuSign to handle the documents electronically.
– REPORT on the change in the grieving process. Worst thing is that we can’t hug and console each other.

DESERT OASIS HEALTHCARE w/ Dr. Brian Hodgkins re: Executive V.P. of Clinical Operations; 275 El Cielo Rd., Palm Springs, 92262.
– REPORT that D.O.H.C. is working closely w/ Eisenhower Health, Desert Care Network and Desert AIDS Project to service the community.
– REPORT that you don’t necessarily need to wipe down your groceries.
– REPORT that children are getting Kawasaki syndrome, i.e. children are getting the coronavirus in some form.
– REPORT that there has been no sign of the disease from take-out.
– REPORT that there is a molecular nasal swab test available for $119. There is an issues w/ the accuracy of this test. Doesn’t show if there is immunity. Not a diagnostic test. Lacks the information needed.
– Our infection rate is less than 5% here in our community. BUT if you are going to be 3 feet from someone, wear a mask. Still a significant benefit to wearing a mask.
– C.V. has 700 positive cases and our doubling rate has slowed. Hospitals are getting busy w/ sick people showing up that HAVE NEEDED care and have avoided going in.
– Hospitals starting to open up to out-patient surgical procedures.
– REPORT on the drug Remdesivir. Showed that people treated earlier on w/ the drug had a shorter hospital stay.
– REPORT that there is a COVID-19 testing center @ their campus on El Cielo. Testing between 30 – 40 folks a day. For D.O.H.C.’s employees and patients. CALL FIRST. Turn-around time is 2 to 3 days.
– Once you are swabbed IN YOUR CAR, you are committed to quarantine for 14 days until you get the test result.
– DISCUSSION of their (760) 969-6555 patient help line for D.O.H.C. clients.
– DISCUSSION that smokers may have better immunity to COVID-19 due to the nicotine. Better to take Vit., D and Vit., C.
– GOOD NEWS we are prepared for the coronavirus to reappear in the Fall. Curve has slowed especially in the CV.
