RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK w/ Dan Gore re: “Oscar’s Downtown Palm Springs”. 125 E. Tahquitz Cyn., Way. # 108, Palm Springs, CA. 92262.
– REPORT that as of May 22, OSCARS IS OPEN FOR SIT DOWN DINING. Bar and show room NOT open yet. No Tea Dance yet. No “Bitchiest Brunch” yet.
– DETAILS of the guidelines for dining. Social distancing w/ faux-box hedges, mist system, masked servers, 6 tables on the patio that can seat 6 people each. All silverware is biodegradable. Constant sanitizing of tables and clean tablecloths.
– REPORT that diners/take out can be served from the bar, BUT the physical bar is not open.
– Monday – Friday 10 AM to 2 PM – 100% plant based only take out only from Chef J.
– Tuesday – Sunday – 4 – 8 PM regular menu w/ Chef Arturo. Can dine in the Palapa or outside on the Patio.
– REPORT that they are vegan/“plant-based” from 10 – 2 each day.

– Convalescent plasma is promising.
– REPORT on the testing regulations….both D.O.H.C. and the County. DOHC members call (760) 969-6555 for free testing thru DOHC. Call 24/7. 400 calls a day.
– REPORT that any time you get swabbed you will get 14 days required isolation. You will be contacted on a regular basis to monitor your status. Turnaround time is about 48 hours.
– REPORT on new symptoms…i.e. stomach, g.i. tract, etc.
– REPORT that we are learning things we thought were true that we now know are not accurate.

PALM SPRINGS AIR MUSEUM w/ Ann Greer, 745 N. Gene Autry Tr., Palm Springs, CA. 92262.
– ANNOUNCEMENT: The Museum will officially re-open Monday June 1st!!!!! “NOW BOARDING”!!!! @ 10 AM.
– REPORT on all safety precautions and rules for staff and visitors.
– Different entrance and exit areas in the 86,000 square feet of space. Hours 10 to 5. Kids 6 to 12 FREE right now. Limited number of visitors per square feet, etc.
– At this point in time no more “open cockpits”, restrooms cleaned every 2 hours, temperatures taken of staff and visitors, masks required w/ masks available if you don’t have one.

CITY OF PALM SPRINGS w/ City Manager David Ready – 3200 E. Tahquitz Cyn., Way. Palm Springs, CA. 92262. 20 years next week.
– REPORT on the City Council’s extension of the eviction policy for tenants and landlords.
– REPORT than 10 years of work and innovation here in the City has been compromised in the last 10 weeks, but the quick action of our City made a huge difference.
– REPORT on the positive participation of residents in the newly opened restaurants and businesses.
– REPORT that the Mayor’s task force has been meeting weekly w/ the business community and how to make the re-entry of all go smoothly….possible closure of some streets, some days, for more space for restaurants.
– DISCUSSION of when bars might re-open.
– REPORT on his biggest worry. HOW TO GET THE NEW DOWNTOWN re-opened and tourism back to re-start the economy.
– REPORT that the City has lost millions of dollars due to COVID-19. Council’s priority is ALWAYS safety for our City. Spending $20 million to finish this fiscal year and enough for next year, but that will be the end of those funds. Police and Fire personnel will be kept on the job. They will defer hiring new persons.
– PLANNING of the adjustments that they will have to make.
– DISCUSSION of the homeless problem. Social Services is a function of County Government, not City. BUT the City Council has put significant resources into dealing w/ the homeless issue but now they don’t have the funds. County will hopefully step up.
– REPORT on housing homeless, essential service folks, medical COVID-19 personnel, in our hotels.
– REPORT that staff is back @ City Hall and “on the street”, but w/ all safety precautions in place.
– THE BEST THING is the way everyone is coming together.

ELMER’S RESTAURANT w/ Jacky Donnell re: 1030 E. Palm Cyn., Palm Springs, CA. 92264.
– ANNOUNCEMENT THAT THEY RE-OPENED Thursday May 28.
– REPORT on how the tables are complying w/ social distancing, tables out on patio and on the grass if desired.
– REPORT that menus are sanitized after every use, no condiments are on the table, one person will clean the bathrooms regularly, masks on all servers who will be questioned each time they come to work.
– REPORT that Elmer’s will be open from 6 AM – 9 PM 7days a week.

LATE BREAKING NEWS….Yesterday, May 22, the Mayor of Palm Springs announced the re-opening of all restaurants and businesses in Palm Springs!!!

RESTAURANT OF THE WEEK w/ Willie Rhine re: “Eight4Nine Restaurant and Lounge”. 849 N. Palm Cyn., Dr., Palm Springs, CA. 92262.
– REPORT that he hopes to be open soon and the entire restaurant has been cleaned from floor to ceiling.
– REPORT on take-out and curbside and save 20% if you call the restaurant directly. Can use any of the delivery services to deliver it to you. 7 days a week from 11 AM to 2 PM and then from 4:30 to 8 PM.
– No catering yet!!!
– REPORT that the restaurant is prepared for social distancing when they re-open. The summer nights will be lovely outside. All tables, inside and out are at least 6 feet apart.
– REPORT that you will enter the restaurant w/ a mask. The staff will all have masks. Purse hooks to hold masks and purses. Tables completely sanitized in-between all guests.
– REPORT on new “placemat” disposable menu and disposable salt and pepper shakers.
– REPORT that the staff will be carefully monitored health wise. Bathroom attendant has been hired to keep the bathrooms sanitized AFTER every single guest, at least on the weekends. Willie’s innovation!!!
