– DISCUSSION that Brookdale Mirage Inn has “respite care”!!! For folks visiting in this area, they can stay in respite care for a month etc., in the Independent living. Example of Sunny Thompson’s active parents traveling w/ her for her show “Sunny and Her Hollywood Blondes” @ the Annenberg 2/16/2020.
– REPORT that many care-givers have trouble “giving up” the care of a loved one to Brookdale and why.
– DISCUSSION of the “round-the-clock” care for Alzheimer’s/Dementia patients @ Clare Bridge and the resulting interaction between patient and family that then improves.
– DISCUSSION of the in-house support for new families during this transition period.
– DISCUSSION of how aggressive “exit-seeking” residents are treated. In concert w/ the doctor of course. Positive results.

– DISCUSSION of how people are in denial after a loved one has had a stroke. Not understanding that the brain cells have been destroyed.
– DISCUSSION that “lucid moments” cause the family to feel that the patient has been faking OR that they are going to be “normal” again. Still the denial factor.
– REPORT that isolation happens for the patient when they are cared for @ home.
– ISOLATION is a major issue in this country vs. Solitude. CDC calls isolation a disease now.
– DISCUSSION that isolation causes depression, dietary changes, hoarding issues, shopping networks addictions and therefore the loss of their funds.
– DISCUSSION that a spouse feels guilty because they “promised” their spouse would NEVER have to leave home, that they would “care” for the spouse FOREVER.
– REPORT on “THRIVE” a FREE a support group for Dementia Family Caregivers. Usually meets 1st and 3rd Wed., of every month @ 10 AM. Hosted by “The Fountains @ the Carlotta”. Call for details

– DISCUSSION of Shoshana Bean’s marvelous concert @ the McCallum Theatre and her “honoring” of her grandmother w/ her music and how that ties into the services Forest Lawn always suggests for services. How meaningful something such as that can be after a loss.
– Pre-planning and pre-paying for your funeral services will give you the “control” and peace of mind. Forest Lawn personnel will help w/ these discussions also.

– DISCUSSION that community-based adult service program allows for some insurance coverage. Call for details.
– The Center is now learning about “age-related dementia” especially here in the Coachella Valley.
– Open Mon. – Friday for outpatient services in a secured space.
– Work w/ Sundial Bus to get clients to and from the Center.
– DISCUSSION on the positive improvement of their clients @ the Center. Budget is now $2 million a year. Now they are licensed to see 200 patients a day.
– Can use volunteers. NVC will train folks. Especially need help w/ the Parkinson’s boxing program!!!! Men and/or women.
