NEURO VITALITY CENTER w/ Allan H. Jensen re: Ex. Dir. and Program Director – 2800 E. Alejo Rd., Palm Springs.
– REPORT of their mission statement and that Neuro Vitality Center is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC 5 days a week; 8 AM to 2 PM.
– REPORT that their kitchen is currently being rented out by Mizel Center for their “Meals on Wheels” program and when they are done with it, NVC is going to re-do it.
– REPORT on the Community Based Adult Service Program. (CBAS) and the programs offered thru this.
– REPORT that If you are on Medical you can come to the NVC for FREE. Medical is for everybody. You can have Medical on top of Medicare and your secondary insurance.
– REPORT that people on Medical can come to the CBAS program @ NVC 5 days a week and GET ALL THE SERVICES FOR FREE. You get therapy AND 2 meals a day.
– REPORT on their Desert Memory Club (DMC CLUB) for folks w/ more advanced Dementia (16 main ones) and Alzheimer. Discussion of how that is determined. Cost is $20/hour or $88/day 5 days a week. More for the Caregiver and give them a respite.
– REPORT on the new Parkinson Program that just began March 1. For the clients; 2 one-hour group sessions a week w/ a therapist. A one-hour Zoom group session w/ a speech therapist. $50/week. Case management in ANYTHING thru CAARES.
– REPORT on the Wednesday evening “Open Mic”; doors @ 6; singing starts @ 6:30 w/ pianist Joel Baker. $10. Cover and a meal is served.
– REPORT that there will be a live one-person show EVERY SATURDAY thru May. $15. Cover @ the door.

– MISSION STATEMENT that Dementia Help Center is the rescue plan for family caregivers. Fear cripples, but knowledge empowers.
– DISCUSSION of the programs that @ Neuro Vitality Center offers.
– QUESTIONS FROM “JOEY PALS” FOR NEXT TIME.
1. Do people increase their chances of getting dementia if they take sleeping pills.
– REPORT on how important it is for care-givers to have a support group. Every journey is different.
– THEME FOR TODAY:
1. How do you determine when it’s time to place your loved one in a care facility.
– If you are asking that question, it’s probably time.
– Need to recognize the signs in your loved one.
– You need to take care of yourself.
– Are your loved one’s needs more than you can possibly give?
– The horrible guilt associated with either not being able to care for your loved one….OR the horrible guilt associated w/ placing them somewhere else.
– THE ANSWER TO ALL THESE ISSUES IS DEMENTIAL HELP CENTER.
– Become a care-manager, not a care-giver.
– REPORT on their bi-monthly “THRIVE” support group for ALL LEVELS. Open to clients, family, care-givers. Also have a ZOOM meeting. Call for the link. FREE CONSULTATIONS. Indian Wells group meets 1st and 3rd Wed., of each month. La Quinta group meets 2nd and 4th Wed., in Old Town. of each month.

PALM SPRINGS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT w/ Daniel Meier. Re: Deputy Director of Aviation, Marketing & Air Service @ Palm Springs International Airport.
– REPORT that the Palm Springs International Airport has received $5.7 million dollars from the Department of Transportation to improve, renovate and expand the baggage handling facility. Needs the expansion as the airport is soooo busy.
– REPORT that all the flooring will be replaced too.
– REPORT on the Master Plan. Will be a 30-month process. The airport wants public input for suggestions. Visible on the website; www.flypsp.com Will guide the airport for the next twenty years.
– REPORT that there may be a vertiport to land electric aircraft!!!!!
– DISCUSSION that Vertiports are in the works now. United has electric aircraft in development now.
– REPORT that the new concourse will open w/ all the new restaurants and shops will open this Fall.
– REPORT that there is a new website that will tell you what you can and cannot take. www.tsa.gov and go to the section “what can I bring”.

– REPORT of the Joshua Tree Tour. Almost like a different planet. Granite rocks that are over 20 million years old basically.
– REPORT that the tectonic plates; North American and Pacific plates created the mountains in our valley 20 million years ago.
– DISCUSSION of the training the guides go thru.
– REPORT that there are 4 major tours 1. San Andreas Fault Tour in a Jeep; 2. Indian Canyons Tour in a Jeep w/ hiking; 3. Joshua Tree National Park Tour in SUVs w/ some hiking; 4. Painted Canyons Tour in Mecca Hills in a Jeep, w/ emphasis on agriculture in the Valley.
