DESERT CARE NETWORK w/ Dr. John Legge, M.D. Re: Desert Care Network/Desert Regional Medical Center @ 1180 N. Indian Canyon, Palm Springs.
– REPORT that Dr. Legge is a neurologist. He’s an expert in the movement disorders associated w/ Parkinsons.
1.) Definition of Parkinsons. i.e. starts in the brain. Men have this more than women.
2.) Age that Parkinsons strikes. i.e. later in life. Increased risk in folks over 60.
3.) Cause of Parkinsons. i.e. bad chemical “actors” in the brain.
4.) Treatments. i.e; At this point in time we just treat the symptoms, not the cause yet. Possible treatments: Stem cells, vaccine, monoclonal antibodies. He is very hopeful for treatment studies and applications this year.
5.) Signs of the onset of Parkinsons. i.e. tremors in the hands, then head, jaw and legs. Not all signs of Parkinsons are manifested w/ tremors.
– DISCUSSION of what point in time one begins treatment for the symptoms.
– DISCUSSION of how he picked this specialty. i.e. His Grandmother. He loves neuroscience.
– REPORT that the CV HAS NOT had a dedicated Parkinson’s treatment source until his practice.
